Share your photos and print them with the new Polaroid Socialmatic.
This is for everyone born before the age of the digital camera – let’s say before the late 90’s. Remember back in the day when your dad or mom asked you to grab the camera for photo opts at family events? I’ll take one guess and say you probably had a Polaroid One Step Camera. It was mostly likely a black camera that folded open like a transformer. What kind of film did it take? That’s right…it took actual film unlike the digital cameras of today. The One Step was an instant camera that generated a fully developed image upon taking a picture. Released to the consumer market in 1948, Polaroid has been able to stay current and strong throughout the years as technological advances keep progressing in the camera industry. Now they are taking digital cameras to a new level with the Polaroid Socialmatic.
The Polaroid Socialmatic brings the instant camera of yesterday to the digital age of today. Built specifically for social networking, the Socialmatic makes it easy to capture all moments and memories for social media purposes. However, you can also print your photos on the spot. No other digital camera offers this feature. Instead you have the delayed gratification of printing your images from a computer well after taking the photo. The Polaroid Socialmatic gives you options.

Socialmatic is automatically social – hence the name. Inspired by this current Instagram age, it has built-in Wi-Fi and apps for social media such as Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest. These social networks thrive on the upload of pictures shared with family and friends. It has a 14 megapixel front camera and an additional 2 megapixel rear camera. What other digital camera has this? Don’t answer that just yet…it gets better. The Socialmatic is Android based and has a touchscreen with an LCD display making it easy to navigate.
But how does the Socialmatic print if it is digital you might ask? Ink-less paper! The Socialmatic uses Zero Ink Paper, a product of Zink Imaging, which allows it to print 2”x3” photos on smudge-proof, water resistant and tear-proof paper. Zink Imaging is the inventor of Zero Ink, an innovative color printing system that does not use ink cartridges or ribbons. The Zero Ink Paper already comes with the ink embedded within the paper to produce a clear and fully-colored photo upon capturing the shot. Zink Imaging is taking the lead developing on ink-free printing for business and consumer needs. Their partnership with Polaroid only scratches the surfaces or where digital cameras can go in the future. Zink is partners to Dell as well. Before you know it we will have desktops and laptops that can print without a physical printer attached.
The Polaroid Socialmatic is not on the market yet, but it will be in the fall of 2014. Every smartphone has a camera nowadays. Is the Socialmatic stiff competition? Just out of curiosity, what kind of digital camera do you have or do you simply use your camera phone to take pictures? Leave us a comment!
